Shanghai Memories

This hand printed and bound book serves as a tribute to the ephemeral memories of my two-month stay in the bustling Shanghai. My hope is that these illustrations will not only serve as a visual memoir of my time in Shanghai but also provide insight into the city's character and culture.

The series begins with my isolation in the quarantine hotel, where time seemed to come to a standstill.

Following the completion of my 14-day quarantine in Shanghai, I stumbled upon a cluster of pop-up rattan chairs on Julu Road. These chairs were intertwined, almost resembling a colossal rattan installation. To my surprise, I never encountered them again, making the experience seem almost magical!

"Nongtang" is a narrow alleyway or lane in Shanghai, lined with traditional brick buildings featuring unique architectural details. They offer an intimate and vibrant atmosphere, providing a glimpse into Shanghai's rich history and culture.
